We are delighted to announce that the world's greatest competition fly fisherman, Martin Droz, will be returning to Australia in November 2017 to host more fly fishing seminars.
In 2015 and 2016 Martin, along with Christopher Bassano, hosted some fantastic river fly fishing seminars on the Mersey and Meander Rivers in Tasmania's north. These seminars were extremely popular with both competition anglers and leisure anglers and were enjoyed by all who attended. Feedback from both years of courses indicated that anglers gained a wealth of information at the seminars which has enormously assisted their angling ability and had a far reaching positive effect on their river fishing skills.
This year, for the first time, we are holding courses in three different states to reduce the amount of travelling that people may have to do. With the national championships also being held in Tasmania again this year, competition anglers no longer have to travel down here twice in quick succession to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.
These seminars concentrate on the important factors that have enabled the Czech Republic to become the world’s best fly fishing nation. This includes reading the water, choosing the correct techniques, technique execution, flies and fly tying along with many more important factors that help anglers catch more fish. From European nymphing to dry fly and wet fly fishing, Martin covers it all.
The seminars involve theory lessons as well as practical sessions and this year, Martin will be going to New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.
Who is Martin Droz?

Martin's first world championships was in Australia in 1999 and he has won multiple Czech titles and medals on several occasions in his home country. His teaching and guiding experience extends throughout many European countries and across the globe. Amongst his peers there is no argument that he is the best in his field.
Below is some information on the group seminars that will be held in 2017:
Each seminar will run over two days and will be open to a maximum of 10 participants only. We are keeping the seminar numbers low so as that everyone gets a good opportunity for one on one practical fishing time with Martin.
You are required to supply all of your own food and beverages for the seminar and to organise and pay for your own accommodation. We will provide basic coffee, tea, biscuits etc at the courses.
If anyone wants further information on the closest accommodation to their course, please contact Christopher as some locations have Agee do to give participants discounted rates.
We will host three seminars this year and anglers of all abilities can attend them. As we are wanting to have more practical time on the water (as we did last year), Martin can easily cater for individual needs and abilities.
Seminar participants will be accepted on a "first in, best dressed" basis. This applies to EVERYONE, to ensure it is a fair process. We have had waiting lists for the last two years and anglers have missed out. We would advise everyone to email us immediately to indicate which seminar you would like to attend. We will respond to emails as quickly as possible to let you know if there are any spaces left in the course you wish to attend and if so, to send you the deposit details. Confirmation of course attendance will not occur until your deposit has been paid.
The seminars will be held on:
- Meander River / Mersey River - Tasmania
- Rubicon River - Victoria
- Murrumbidgee River - NSW
The prices for the 2017 seminars will be as follows:
- Full members of Fly Fish Australia - $650
- Non Fly Fish Australia members - $900
Please note that to qualify for the FFA member price, a FULL membership must have been attained for the 2017 / 2018 season!
Meander, Tasmania - Meander River / Mersey River
Saturday 4th November - Day One
Sunday 5th November - Day Two
This is the first course and will be held out of the Meander Hall with fishing on the very nearby Meander River. It is the only weekend course and close accommodation can be found in nearby Deloraine. We have the luxury of also being able to use the Mersey River for practical sessions if we want to.
Thornton, Victoria - Rubicon River
Wednesday 8th November - Day One
Thursday 9th November - Day Two
The theory part of the course will be held in the Rubicon Hotel in Thornton while the practical component will be on the Rubicon River. We are lucky to have a few rivers in the area in case there are any issues with the Rubicon.
This is a week day course to ensure lower numbers of people on the river. Travel times are short from Melbourne and those wanting to stay at the Rubicon Hotel will get discounted accommodation rates from them while attending the course.
Adaminaby, N.S.W. - Murrumbidgee River
Monday 13th November - Day One
Tuesday 14th November - Day Two
This course will take place during the week to ensure that fewer anglers are on the water. We have been lucky enough to get access to private property on the Murrumbidgee River for the practical component.
The theory part of the course will be held at the Snowy Mountains Resort in Adaminaby.
